The day
started out pretty normally for Mommy and was pretty unexciting until I made
up my mind that I was ready. When I did, there was no stopping me as
you'll see below.
- 6:00am - Mommy wakes up with what she
thinks are cramps. These cramps continue, Mommy being none the wiser.
- 9:00am - Mommy, Daddy, and Abbey finish
breakfast and head out for some garage sales. Mommy's still having
those "cramps". She says they don't feel like the contractions she
had with Abbey, so she doesn't think much of them.
- 11:00am - Mommy, Daddy, and Abbey return
home. Mommy's still having those cramps, a little more frequently
and longer in duration, but still nothing to send her to the hospital.
They're only about 40 seconds long and as much as 10 minutes apart.
- 11:05am - Mommy decides to call the doctor,
who confirms with her that she probably is, indeed, having contractions.
- 11:15am - Since the contractions are still
relatively short, relatively infrequent, and a bit erratic, Daddy OK's it
with Mommy that he can mow the grass, so he does.
- 12:15pm - Lunch. Still no excitement.
- 12:30pm - Daddy and Mommy nonchalantly
begin to pack and get the car ready (car seats installed, etc.).
Contractions starting to slow.
- 1:30pm - Mostly packed, Mommy gets very
aggravated, as the contractions have all but stopped. She turns on
the TV in disgust, believing that she'd had false labor. Daddy slows
packing.
- 1:50pm - Mommy's water breaks. Now
it's time to head to the hospital. She and Daddy quickly finish
packing, wake Abbey, and load the car.
- 2:00pm - Mommy, Daddy, and Abbey hit the
road, making phone calls to family in Illinois letting them know they're
on the way to the hospital. Contractions begin to intensify.
- 2:30pm - Mommy and Daddy drop Abbey off at
friends. Contractions getting stronger and stronger.
- 2:45pm - Mommy and Daddy arrive at the
hospital; a nurse shuffles them into the room, telling Mommy to
start getting ready.
- 2:55pm - Nurse returns to find Mommy still
getting ready and realizes that I'm ready to go. She pages everyone
in the vicinity.
- 2:56pm - The baby delivery SWAT team
(composed of literally six delivery nurses) shows
up to prepare the room and Mommy for my arrival. Mommy's doctor is
on the way from another hospital.
- 3:02pm - Mommy's doctor still hasn't
arrived. Finally, a hospital resident shows up. Nurse scolds
him for taking so long to get ready.
- 3:04pm - After a couple of pushes (and
absolutely no drugs whatsoever), I arrive happy and healthy, delivered by
the hospital resident.
- 3:45pm - Mommy and Daddy begin making phone
calls to inform everyone that I'm here. Common response is:
BULLS**T!!!!
Yep. That's right. Just over an
hour from the time Mommy's water broke, I was here in the world. I'm
betting Mommy and Daddy don't wait so long next time. :) |
